Illy

Illy company was established by Francesco Illy in 1933 in Italiy in Trieste. Francesco Illy invited the 2,5kg air-free vacuum packaging to ensure freshness of the coffee and strenghten the the coffee aroma.Packaging has changed over the years, but the basic idea from Francesco Illy, the quality of espresso and all other Illy products have remained the same.

The company pays great attention to product development and quality control. Illy is the only grower who makes his coffeebean purchase desicions on the basis of tasting and laboratory tests. Illy buys the hihg quality beans directly from growers in Central and South America, India and Africa.

Illy was the first in European coffee industry who obtained ISO 9001quality system certificate, certifying that manufacturing process is up to requirements.
2003 - ISO 14001 certificate in enviromental management
2004 - EMA (Eco-Management and Audit Scheme) certificate, which recognizes companies in Europe in enviromental conscientiousness. Illy with other 45 food processing industries was one of the first who accepted the strict enviromental management system.
2005 - EMA award for all the companys commitment to enviromental issues.
2007 – IFS certificate attesting that Illy products comply with IFS standards and high quality.
2008 – BRC certificate attesting that Illy products reach consistently in high quality to customers.
2010 – Qualite France certificate attesting that Illy coffee is 100% Arabica and using the traditional method of roasting, all aromas are protected with conservation method and theres only 0,05% caffeine in caffeine-free coffee.


Today there are Illy resellers in 140 countries but the production is still only in Trieste.
